For the last couple of months, fans, friends and musicians have been coming out in droves to support Kid Ramos, who has recently been diagnosed with cancer.

Last month, two shows–the “We Are Our Brother’s Keeper” in Covina and the “Rumble For Ramos” in Long Beach–featured some of the finest blues players around. Two shows earlier this month in Arizona also proved how well-respected Ramos is as a musician and person, drawing many from the tight-knit blues family. And now it’s San Diego’s turn to show their support.

Tuesday, December 4, the “Six Strings and Swinging” concert will be held at Humphrey’s Lounge, with all proceeds going to help offset medical costs. The tentative line-up is set to include Steve Wilcox, Mr. Johnny Vernazza, Scottie Blinn, Johnny Main, Dana Duplan, John Flynn, Jimmy Woodard, Smokehouse Brown, Scot Smart and host band Chet Cannon and The Committee.

Also stepping in to help the cause is The Southwest Musical Arts Foundation, as they will release a CD called The Kid Ramos/Bob Corritore Phoenix Blues Sessions that will see all proceeds from sales donated to Kid. The CD features some of the best recordings from four recording sessions that Kid Ramos and Bob Corritore had in the 1990′s with Henry Gray, Nappy Brown, Big Pete Pearson, Chief Schabuttie Gilliame, and Chico Chism.

Ramos has been thrilling crowds for years, playing with Roomful of Blues, the Fabulous Thunderbirds, Los Fabulocos, and the Mannish Boys, among others, as well as pursuing his own solo career. Come on out and support Kid Ramos’s recovery!
