Mike Pinto Live at The Solana Beach Fiesta Del Sol

Mike Pinto

From the moment he stepped on stage, it was obvious that Mile Pinto, the talented local Encinitas resident, had attracted a decent swell of loyalists. Once Pinto started playing Saturday afternoon at the Fiesta Del Sol, he instantly ignited a joyful fist pumping, sing along celebration to his reggae/ska/rock original material. And without hesitation, Pinto started firing off his catchy groove heavy numbers, giving the crowd exactly what they seemed to need to accompany their upbeat energy on this sun drenched afternoon. Using the solid rhythmic beats of his guitar to strengthen his sound, Pinto and his three piece band created a fluid, easy to sway to jam that fell over the more than enthused audience. Pinto seemed extremely relaxed–dark shades covering his eyes, dark hat covering his head–as he interacted with the crowd before leaning back into another well-received original. Halfway through the set, his sound expanded with the addition of a lively two man horn section that, upon first blow, elevated the momentum the band had built instantly.

Pinto’s material is solid and filled with enough party references to keep the mood festive, drawing loud hoots and hollers from the beer garden. But, don’t be fooled by the revelers. Though it’s easy to slip into Pinto’s swaying good time grooves, his songs are well put together and sneaky in their depth.

After the show, I was able to get to Pinto for a few words. I mentioned to him that he was starting to becoming a regular at the Fiesta Del Sol, having played it the last few years. Pinto was elated in his response. Buoyed by his successful set, he couldn’t say enough about the reaction he received.

“My audience is the best. I could play this festival every year. To come out and sing my songs, it’s great! I have so many great fans.”

After delivering a set like that, Mike, I’m sure you just added a few handfuls more.
