Without a doubt, 2011 was the best year so far at SD Rock ‘n’ Roll. So many great shows came through the San Diego area and I was blessed to be able to see a bunch of them. It would be hard to name my favorite rock and roll moment for 2011, so I asked the people who make up this wide-ranging music scene to help me out with two questions:

1.) What was your favorite rock and roll moment from 2011?
2.) What is your New Year’s resolution for 2012? The resolution can be personal, revolve around your music, or both.

For the next two days, Friday September 9 and Saturday September 10, North Park will become the center of the San Diego music industry universe as the San Diego Music Thing comes to town. Entering its fourth year of existence, the Music Thing is a gathering of San Diego’s finest musical talents. It’s a huge block party that features over 150 bands playing in bars, restaurants, night clubs and street corners throughout North Park.

The San Diego music scene gathered Monday night at Humphreys by the Bay to raise a glass to the local artists. For the 21st time, the annual San Diego Music Awards recognized the multiple array of talent that plays throughout San Diego. Looking back over the night, I couldn’t help but think they might have missed a few awards. So… I decided I would take the liberty of putting together the first annual SD Rock ‘n’ Roll Other Awards!

San Diego is a great place for rock and roll shows. We have Humphreys by the Bay, the Casbah, House of Blues, 4th and B,Cricket Wireless, the casinos, and of course, the crown jewel of the scene: The Belly Up Tavern. But sometimes, the big acts don’t make it down to America’s finest city. Here’s a look at the top 5 acts out on the road that will not be coming to San Diego this year and the ideal venue for them to play if they were.

The 2011 Grammys weren’t entirely disappointing, which is saying a lot, as it’s usually a snore fest filled with the flavors of the month. To my surprise though, this year’s ceremony actually sported some good moments! Here’s a list of SD Rock ‘n’ Roll’s Top 5.
