The Cars – After 23 Years of Silence, Is It Reunion Time?

the Cars

A mysterious photo with no details just popped up on The Cars’ facebook page the other day showing the surviving members of The Cars sitting around jamming. Reunion? New album?

Mums the word so far.

The photo posted July 13th shows Rick Ocasek, Elliot Easton, David Robinson and Greg Hawkes in an unnamed studio with instruments out and smiles on their faces. It has been 23 years since The Cars layed down their 80’s style of rock and won over the MTV generation. Quirky beats, new wave synth, and flashy guitar bits drove The Cars’ sound and landed them handfuls of hits. Unfortunately, some of their biggest hits–“Just What I Needed,” “Drive,” and “Living In Stereo”–were sung by Benjamin Orr who passed away from pancreatic cancer in 2000.

Boston fans have been blessed this year with the return to the stage of home town favorites Aerosmith. Another perennial Boston fave, the J.Geils Band (rocking Fenway Park with Aerosmith this August), has also been out and about this year. Could The Cars complete the Boston trifecta? Let’s hope they do!
