Tom Petty Turns 60

Tom Petty

For 34 years Tom Petty has been on the rock and roll scene. And from the beginning, he has established himself as one of rock’s finest song writers and band leaders. Three albums into his career Petty found one of his musical peaks, releasing the classic album Damn The Torpedoes. The 1979 release firmly established the Tom Petty and The Heartbreakers’ sound and broke the band wide open.

Since then it has been one hit after another for this amazing songwriter. His run over the last 34 years has been unparalleled in terms of quality of material and record sales. No other artist has been more consistent year after year, with releasing radio friendly rock songs. Even his side-steps into other projects, aka The Traveling Wilburys and his solo records, have garnished huge hits.

This year’s release Mojo (check out the album review here) stands right up there with the best stuff he has ever done. Petty at 60 has seemed to find his retirement age stride, still rocking and putting out material that stands out in the crowd.
